About The Jesus Can Ministry

The Jesus Can Ministry was started over 40 years ago by Augusta Richmond County Fire Fighter Larry Watkins, Sr, Growing up in a family with 5 kids, Larry often knew what it was like not to have much at Christmas. Larry was no stranger to the sign of struggle, so it was important to him to reach out to help other families for Christmas. The ministry’ name came from an old Metal Milk can that use to be set out at the firehouse at Christmas time to collect change to buy toys for kids. As the years progressed, the can was carried to many different firehouses, bake sales, and yard sales in hopes to get enough pocket change to bless a family with special gifts on Christmas. The purpose of the ministry was to share with families that with God all things are possible even in the darkest of situation, hope and love can be found when you seek the Lord. Since his passing in 2006, the ministry has been continued by his family and has helped hundreds of children in the CSRA. Due to such a large growth in the ministry along with a growing need for more help, the ministry often seeks sponsors to “Adopt” a child for Christmas, this is another way for us to reach out to more families. We have also recently started, in a small way, providing financial and grocery assistance, throughout the year. The ministry is heavily supported by the community and an official 501C-Non Profit organization. The money donated stays right here and helps our surrounding neighbors. Our primary goal is to share God’s love to families in their time of need and help them build a relationship with the Lord.
